Presentation in Coimbra
The Arca EUAC, an architecture school in Coimbra, invited the office to show the recent projects in a conference series organized by the students. The e-studio, together with the “maestro” António Belém Lima, will present their work in the 20th of May, around 6 pm, at the Casa de Cultura auditorium.
This is definitely an opportunity to discuss with local architects our competition entry for the main Coimbra downtown streets, on the picture.
We decided to create an underground gallery to comply with all heritage issues and commercial functions. Until the beginning of the 20th century the downtown area was cyclically affected by the river Mondegofloods.Nearby roads and squares have their levels fixed according to the floods they were exposed to. Considering that the two main streets were higher than the surrounding squares, it seemed logic to connect them underground, creating a new, full functioning, commercial gallery.
